	I started school in Hutton, Somerset and after a few months, I transferred to the Guthrie Infants School in Calne. A long cobbled path led into the playground. I started in Miss Evelyn's class. Her sister Miss Boulton taught the older children, and Miss Bullock the "beginners". Mrs Dare took another class. We couldn't go out to play until we had finished the obligatory bottle of milk. In the Winter it often went sour, as it was placed near the boiler. I could never drink it, so I didn't get out to play too often :-) From those days, I remember Michael Caswell, Richard Sweet, Richard Haddrell, Alan Trembling, Sheila Bunce, Mary Beeton and Helen Tyler. When we left the Guthrie Infants, we graduated to a church hall near the Recreation Grounds, as part of Calne Junior School, and Mrs Lucas was our teacher. We loved to cross Doctor's Pond, leaning over the railings to watch the ducks. By the time we were seven, we knew all our tables up to the twelve times table. The next year we were up at "The Green". I think we had a good start to our education at the Guthrie Infant School, with lots of emphasis on learning to read.

	I remember the old potboilers being really hot when you were close to them and the rest of the class freezing. I cracked my head open on the brick wall by the outside loos still have the scar on my forehead. The old school used to be owned by an artist don't know if it is now.
